About

This was a freelance project for a client based in India. She is an Amazon reseller and needed to track the sale status of stocks within her reseller account. Listed below are the steps taken and work done to achieve the dashboard above:

Step #1: Understanding the requirements

  • The KPIs and insights needed—what visuals are expected: line charts, heatmaps, slicers, matrices, bar charts.

  • Frequency of data updates—daily, weekly.

  • Data sources—the data resided on cloud servers so I required an endpoint.

Step #2: Getting the data and establish relationships

  • Get permissions, URL and API key to access Amazon S3 servers.

  • Import and transform data via Power Query.

  • Establish relationships between tables (sales, products, date, region, customers). Primary and foreign keys apply.

  • Create measures and calculated columns to be used. Here I made use of DAX expressions and functions.

  • Some examples of measures created include Total Sales, Average Sales, Year-over-Year Growth, etc.

Step #3: Designing the dashboard visualisation

  • Drag and drop the selected visuals onto their expected layout position.

  • Map visuals to a measure or calculated columns.

  • Add date slicers—the functionality of which is determined by the columns of the DateTable.

  • Create measures and calculated columns to be used. Here I made use of DAX expressions and functions.

  • Add search boxes—this functionality is determined by the measures' flexibility.

Step #4: Testing and deployment

  • All pages of the dashboard canvas were tested for data accuracy.

  • Feedback was gathered on usability, interactivity, and visual design.

  • I Published the dashboard to the client's PowerBI Service. A refresh schedule of daily was set up.

  • Created a shareable dashboard link.
